Are you ready for poinsettia season?

Even though it’s barely summer, the call of Mariah Carey is in the air. You know what that means. Poinsettia season is upon us! Who doesn’t love Christmas in July? Here are some things to think about to as you prep for the poinsettia push.
Start with the right Ellepots by A.M.A.
One of the best things about Ellepots by A.M.A. is that you can customize the plug and tray to best suit the plant. When it comes to poinsettias, we typically recommend one of these two options:
- 6 x 13 Strip Tray with matching carry tray – made for 30mm Ellepots
- 5 x 10 Strip Tray with matching carry tray – made for 35mm Ellepots
Have you stocked up on mix?
When it comes to picking the right mix, we recommend:
- Fafard’s Agro Mix® G7: An all-purpose, high-porosity soil mix that provides excellent drainage and good gas diffusion due to its particular peat composition. This is great for preventing wet feet, especially when free draining.
- Fafard’s Agro Mix® G6: A good general mix designed to meet the needs of producers that prefer to use one planting mix for all growing needs. It is specifically recommended for hanging baskets, cannabis, cutting propagation, perennials (including poinsettias) and annuals.
Do you have containers that will drive retail?
There are a couple of ways to go about picking the right poinsettia container. If you go for a basic grower pot that fits perfectly with a festive wrap, there are a lot of options! Our team can help you pick the best size and style for your budget and production. We recommend:
- Clifton 6” regular azalea pot and 6.5” azalea pot (while supplies last)
- HC 6” round azalea pot
- Koba 8” azalea pot and 10” azalea pot
Or skip the slip and cut back on waste with a decorative pot that comes in a festive colour.
- Festive containers like Snowflake, Bella and Bellina lineup from our partners at HCxCHG (on page 29 of the catalogue). We don’t have these on our website yet, but we can certainly source them for you.
Do you need support rings?
Plant support rings are used to brace foliage, encourage uniform growth and protect the plant during shipment and handling. As a result, growers experience fewer returns and increased profitability. Keep your poinsettias safe and sturdy. We recommend:
- Koba Support Rings – available in sizes 6”, 7”, 8”, 9”,10”, 12” and 14”
